From 2020 through 2024, 622 people died in 557 crashes on Wyoming roads. That is 21.2 deaths a year for every 100,000 residents, above the US rate of 12.1, and the 2nd highest rate of the 50 states and DC.

Laramie County had the most deaths (71). The road stretch with the most fatal crashes was I-80 (US-30) in Sweetwater County (36). In 2024, 107 people were killed, 16% fewer than in 2020.

  2. Know your deadline

    Wyoming gives you four years to file a personal injury lawsuit (Wyo. Stat. Ann. § 1-3-105(a)(iv)(C)). If a city, county or state vehicle was involved: A claim against a governmental entity must be presented as an itemized written statement within two years of the act, error or omission (or two years after discovery if it was not reasonably discoverable); suit must then be filed within one year after the claim is filed.
