After a crash in Nevada
-
Get the crash report
Reports taken by city police and county agencies come from that agency's records unit; Las Vegas Metropolitan Police charges $13.00 per Traffic Collision Report (effective July 1, 2026), takes online, in-person or mail requests with photo ID, and says to allow up to 10 business days after the report is filed.
-
Know your deadline
Nevada gives you two years to file a personal injury lawsuit (Nev. Rev. Stat. § 11.190(4)(e)). If a city, county or state vehicle was involved: A tort claim against the state must be filed with the Attorney General, and a claim against a city, county or other political subdivision with its governing body, within 2 years after the cause of action accrues.
-
Who pays
Nevada is an at-fault state: the driver who caused the crash, through their liability insurance, pays for the injuries and damage.
-
If you were partly at fault
You can recover if your own negligence is no greater than the defendant's (50% or less), with your award reduced by your share; if you are more than 50% at fault you recover nothing.
-
The other driver’s minimum coverage
The legal minimum liability coverage in Nevada is $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 per crash and $20,000 for property (25/50/20).
