Trucking companies with the most fatal crashes
FedEx Ground Package System Inc was involved in the most fatal crashes of any trucking company in federal records from 2020 through 2024: 149 crashes that killed 176 people. United Parcel Service Inc follows with 131, then J B Hunt Transport Inc with 96. 179 carriers have 5 or more.
The list is raw counts, so the biggest fleets rise to the top. A listed crash means a vehicle reported under the carrier's USDOT number was involved, not that the carrier caused it. Fleet size comes from FMCSA, so each row also shows fatal crashes per 1,000 power units where the fleet has 1,000 or more. Fleet size is today's figure, and the crash counts are small enough that one crash moves a rate.

Questions about trucking company crash records
Which trucking company has the most fatal crashes?
FedEx Ground Package System Inc (USDOT 265752) has the most in NHTSA's 2020 to 2024 records: 149 fatal crashes that killed 176 people. United Parcel Service Inc is next with 131 and J B Hunt Transport Inc third with 96. These are raw counts, and the largest fleets drive the most miles.
Does a crash on this list mean the company was at fault?
No. The federal crash records show that a vehicle reported under a carrier's USDOT number was involved in a fatal crash. They do not record who caused it.
How do I look up a trucking company's USDOT number?
Each page here shows the USDOT number and operating authority from the FMCSA Company Census. For any carrier, including ones not on this list, the SAFER Company Snapshot searches by name, USDOT or MC number and shows inspections and out-of-service rates.
Which large carrier has the most fatal crashes for its size?
Among the 113 carriers here with 1,000 or more power units, Ryder Integrated Logistics Inc has the highest rate: 13.94 fatal crashes per 1,000 power units over five years. The rate uses today's fleet count, so it is a rough guide, not a safety rating.
Where does the fleet data come from?
Fleet size, drivers and status come from the FMCSA Company Census File, which carriers fill in themselves; the file here was last updated October 28, 2026. Crash counts come from NHTSA's Fatality Analysis Reporting System for 2020 through 2024.

How the pages are built
NHTSA's Fatality Analysis Reporting System lists every fatal crash on a public road. For commercial vehicles it records the carrier's USDOT number when one is on file. The number is copied from the police report, so it can be mistyped, missing, or name a different company than the one that employed the driver. Crashes with no number are not counted. the 2020 to 2024 files hold 16,850 carrier-linked crash records. We count crashes per USDOT number and join each number to the FMCSA Company Census record for the same number. A carrier with several USDOT numbers appears once per number. A few school, transit and intercity bus operators appear because FARS records buses under the same numbers. A page needs 5 or more fatal crashes and a census record. The census file is re-read daily and the pages rebuild from it. The ranking is not a safety rating. If you are hurt in a crash with a truck, check your state's filing deadline and talk to a lawyer licensed in that state. All sources
